Hijama holds a special place within Islam and is a practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ underwent cupping himself and spoke about it as a form of treatment, which is why hijama continues to be practised by Muslims today.

The Angels' Advice

The importance given to hijama can also be seen in a narration from the Prophet’s ﷺ Night Journey (Al-Isra’):

“I did not pass by any group of angels on the night of the Isra’, except that they said to me: ‘O Muhammad, tell your ummah to practice cupping (hijama).’”

- Sunan Ibn Majah, 3477

The Sunnah Days

Hijama is also traditionally associated with the 17th, 19th and 21st days of the Islamic lunar month, based on narrations concerning cupping on these dates. These have become commonly known as the Sunnah days for hijama.

For many Muslims, hijama is therefore not simply a traditional therapy, but also an opportunity to connect with and revive a practice found within the Sunnah.

At Hayati Hijama, this is at the heart of what we do — women’s wellbeing, rooted in Sunnah. ♡
